The Genex DNA Collection Kit has everything that you need to collect a DNA sample from the mouth and send it to our laboratory for testing. The sample can be collected from individuals at any age, including newborns. The kit is specially designed to be simple and accurate to use. Collecting the sample using the Genex DNA Collection Kit is fast, simple, painless, and discreet.

When you order your test, you will be provided with two unique I.D. numbers. We will provide you with a file number when you order your test. The second number is the serial number for your testing kit. Every Genex DNA Collection Kit has a unique barcode and serial number. No two kits have the same serial number. To protect your privacy, we will ask you to provide both your file number and serial number when you call us for results, or to discuss your test. Genex ensures 100% patient confidentiality.

Step 1

Wash and dry hands thoroughly before collection.
Attention: Do not eat, smoke, brush or chew gum for one hour prior to sample collection.

Step 2

Open the Genex DNA Collection Kit. Inside the kit, you will find four swabs for each person tested. For instance if you order the motherless paternity test, you will have four yellow swabs for the child, and four blue swabs for the alleged father. If you order the paternity test with mother, you will also receive four pink swabs for the mother.

Step 3

To collect buccal cells, carefully peel apart the sleeve containing the sterile buccal swabs. Remove the buccal swab carefully, holding the swab by the handle.

Step 4

Insert the swab inside the mouth and rub the swab on the inside of the cheek for 15 seconds.

Step 5

Immediately after collecting the cheek cells, place the swab directly into the appropriate matching color coded specimen container. Repeat for remaining three swabs for the same individual. Collect in total two swabs from the right cheek and two swabs from the left cheek. After all four swabs are collected for the individual, seal and label the specimen container.

Step 6

Collect buccal cells from the next individual by repeating steps 2 to 5 using the appropriate color coded swabs provided in the kit.

Step 7

Immediately after sample collection, place the specimen containers and completed consent forms back into the original testing kit. Return the specimens and consent forms directly to the laboratory using the pre-addressed envelope provided in the kit.

Testing will begin immediately once the samples are received in the laboratory. Your results will be available in the next 5 - 7 working days.
