Please note that the DNA Aunt test and DNA Uncle test is not as powerful as a DNA paternity test/parentage test. If the alleged parent(s) in question is/are available for testing, we highly recommend the paternity test or maternity test over the DNA aunt or uncle test. The DNA paternity and maternity tests will always provide absolutely conclusive results. The DNA aunt or uncle test should only be chosen if the parent in question absolutely cannot be tested. If you decide to proceed with a DNA Aunt test or DNA Uncle test in order to find out whether an alleged father is the true biological father of a child, we highly recommend adding the child’s biological mother to the grandparent test in order to increase the power of the test. The DNA aunt test and DNA uncle test results will provide a likelihood that an aunt or uncle is the true biological aunt or uncle of a child.

If you choose a Private Knowledge Grandparent test, discreet collection kits containing buccal (mouth) swabs will be delivered to your address for simple, painless sample collection. The samples are collected by rubbing the provided swabs inside the mouth along the cheek and then sent back to the laboratory for analysis. Results will be available 3 to 5 business days from the date the samples are received at the laboratory.

Legal DNA Aunt or Uncle Test

The Legal Aunt or Uncle Test is for individuals who need to receive legally admissible documents for use in court. Legal grandparent testing requires a chain-of-custody procedure to be followed during sample collection by an unbiased third party collector/collection site. If you choose the legal test, you cannot collect the samples yourself. You will need to attend an appointment for chain-of-custody sample collection. This ensures proper witnessing, verification of identification and fingerprinting of the individuals involved in the test. Results will be available 3 to 5 business days from the date the samples are received at the laboratory.

If the individuals to be tested live in different cities, or even different countries, we can split the kit and send each component to a different address. Since the kits are individually barcoded, the samples will still be tested together even if the are sent back separately. To order a split kit, please write the following into the comments box of the online order form “Please split kit”. Please also indicate the name and address to send each component. For example, please state “send the alleged aunt’s portion to… (specify the aunt’s name and address)” and “send the nephew’s portion to… (specify the nephew’s name and address).
