DNA Grandparent Test
The DNA grandparent test is recommended for situations where the alleged father/parent is not available for testing. The DNA grandparent test will provide the likelihood that an alleged grandmother or grandfather is the true biological grandparent of a child. This test is usually ordered by grandparents wishing to determine whether their son is the true biological father of their grandchild but their son (the alleged father) is deceased or unavailable to take the DNA paternity test.
Need a legal test? Legal testing starting at $230.
Important! Please note that the DNA grandparent test is not as powerful as a DNA paternity test/parentage test.
If the alleged parent(s) in question is/are available for testing, we highly recommend the paternity test or maternity test over the DNA grandparent test. The DNA paternity and maternity tests will always provide absolutely conclusive results. The DNA grandparent test should only be chosen if the parent in question absolutely cannot be tested. If you decide to proceed with a grandparent test in order to find out whether an alleged father is the true biological father of a child, we highly recommend adding the child’s biological mother to the grandparent test in order to increase the power of the test. The DNA grandparent test results will provide a likelihood that a grandmother or grandfather is the true biological grandparent of a child. If both the grandmother and grandfather are available for testing, the laboratory will additional perform a reconstruction study (try to reconstruct the alleged father’s profile using his parent’s DNA) and this may provide a more conclusive result than testing only one grandparent.
